Fighting COVID-19 together.

Starwood Equine Veterinary Services is closely monitoring the COVID-19 Pandemic and the latest Shelter in Place Order effective March 16, 2020.  While this is a trying time, we want to assure you that we will remain open and available for you and your horses.  Starwood Equine is considered an “Essential Business” under the new order and we agree that the care of your horse is of utmost importance.

Here is how Starwood Equine can help:

  • Starwood is practicing increased biosecurity. We are keeping non-essential employees working from home and have delegated two Doctor/Technician Teams who remain isolated from each other to ensure continued care in the face of employee illness.
  • No employees showing any signs of illness or fever will report to work, handle any supplies you might receive or appear at patient visits.
  • If you are sheltering in place or you are sick and concerned about continued care for your horse we are here to help. Starwood offers extended care services. We can perform physical exams, wellness checks, bandage changes, medication administration, and other daily medical tasks.
  • Considering travel with your horse? Remember that Coggins testing and Health Certificates are needed for travel across state lines. We are predicting a lengthening of time for mail and labwork to process. Please plan at least a week in advance for the bloodwork results to process.
Horses can be affected by an unrelated coronavirus. To learn more about equine coronavirus check out our blog.

You Should Know:

  • Out of an abundance of caution, it is recommended that those ill with COVID-19 limit contact with animals until more information is known about the virus. Have another member of your household take care of walking, feeding, and playing with your pet. If you have a service animal or you must care for your pet, then wear a face mask; don’t share food, kiss, or hug them; and wash your hands before and after any contact with them.
  • Help us practice social distancing! Starwood Equine veterinarians work with assistants so your presence at an appointment –– while always enjoyed –– is discouraged during the Shelter in Place Period.
  • Infectious disease experts and multiple international and domestic human and animal health organizations agree there is no evidence at this point to indicate that pets become ill with COVID-19 or that they spread it to other animals, including people.

This is uncharted territory for us, and we’re doing our best to navigate this crisis along with you. The barn is a safe place where people go to de-stress and enjoy time with their equine companions and we are sorry the new orders will reduce your time there.  In an effort to make up for this, we are initiating Starwood Horsey Hour!
To help everyone get their horse fix while stuck at home, we will be offering weekly webinars on various horse health care topics. Below are links to our Zoom Meetings currently scheduled.  We will continue updating event information on social media and our website so keep checking back for new topics each week!
